Introduction
Every once in a while the brake pads and rotors on the bike will require cleaning since they may become contaminated with road debris while in use. If the brakes produce a grinding and squeaking noise, chances are it's time they need to be cleaned. This article will teach you how to clean the brakes and rotors by removing the contaminated layers on the brake pads and the rotor.
Tools Required
- Mini Multi-Tool Kit Included with the Bike
- 3mm Allen Key
- Fine Grade Sandpaper
- Isopropyl/Rubbing Alcohol
- Clean Cloth
- Gloves (recommended, not required)

Front Brakes

Remove the front calliper with the mini multi-tool included with the bike. Unscrew both bolts and carefully remove the calliper.

Remove the bolt on the calliper with a 3mm Allen Key.

Remove the brake pads. Do not touch the brake pad surfaces with your fingers.

Sand the brake pads with a piece of fine-grade sandpaper until the surfaces are shiny and free of any visible contaminants.

Wipe the brake pads with rubbing alcohol and a piece of clean cloth and allow them to dry completely.

Repeat steps 4 and 5 on the brake rotor.

Reinstall the parts, being careful not to touch the surfaces as the oil from your fingers can contaminate the pads and rotor again.
Rear Brakes

Repeat the same process as the above but for the Rear Brakes.
